Scientists have discovered a promising therapy for cancer by boosting the immune system. The engineers designed nanoparticles that stimulate the immune system and help it fight off cancer, when combined with a group of cancer medications called checkpoint inhibitors.
These nanoparticles are small pieces of DNA that crank up the body’s immune response to tumors. Combined with checkpoint inhibitors, which release the brake in immune, these nanoparticles may provide a synergistic effect that provides a stronger immune response to tumors than when check inhibitors are used alone.
