Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammation
of the airway causing obstruction and trouble breathing.
It usually results from long-term exposure to an irritant, mostly cigarette
smoke, which causes swelling, excess mucus production, and irritation
of the airways.
